Train travel in Europe is much more common than in the United States and as a result it is more economical. One of the most popular ways to travel through Europe is on carriers that move throughout the continent. Most of these carriers offer special passes that allow travelers to travel as much as they want for a set amount of time to any of the countries in the carrier’s network.
Special packages for students and groups traveling together are usually available. There are also limited packages for specific areas of travel such as the United Kingdom or specific countries or regions. There are two kinds of passes that allow travelers to move throughout Europe: one allows them to travel without limits for a specified amount of time and one gives passengers a specific number of days of travel that have to be used in a certain time limit.
Certain companies offer train packages that combine days of travel by train with days in which passengers can explore by car. This allows tourists to see more than they would traveling by train because many of the wonderful parts of Europe are outside the major cities where trains stop.
European trains have all the same amenities as those in the United States and probably more. They offer sleeper cars and special package tours that take visitors to visit specific sites, such as groups of famous ski resorts. Many countries also have airport stations, which allow travelers to fly in or out and catch a train in one location.
Japan also offers a wide variety of ways to travel by train. Japanese carriers sell passes for visitors similar to the ones in Europe, but they must be purchased prior to entering Japan. Japan has both bullet trains and regular trains.
Tickets are also available the old-fashioned way, from point to point. If you want to spend a week in Paris, a week in Rome and a week in Madrid, this is the best way to go. You won’t have to pay for services you aren’t going to use, and because you will be paying only for specific trips, it will be more cost-effective. |
