Commuting By Train

Commuting by train has become more and more popular in the past several years. This is a result of several changes. The first is rising gas prices: why travel by car and waste gas when a train pass is much cheaper? The second reason is traffic. For those who live in the suburbs the drive to and from work can take forever because of time spent sitting in traffic. Although trains can get backed up, it is rarely for the same amount of time that one can spend sitting in a car. Even if the train is backed up riders don’t have to watch the road: they can read or simply relax. This break on the way home provides a nice way to relax after a long day. In addition, there have been many recent technological advances that make riding a train easier and faster.

The largest train-commuting population is located around New York. In fact, when many people move to the New York area they don’t even look for a place to live in the city; instead they plan on traveling in and out by train. This is especially true for students just graduating from college who want to live the city life but can’t afford Manhattan expenses. It is much more economical to live in New Jersey and make the daily commute in and out of the city.

Another city that attracts a large number of train commuters is Washington D.C. This is a result of the wonderfully organized transportation there that allows people to move about freely while in the city in addition to entering and leaving it. Many Washington D.C.-area workers live in Maryland or Virginia and simply hop on the train to get to work every day.

Because of the convenience of commuter rails, other cities throughout the United States with less sophisticated means of public transportation are looking into building rails that are geared to commuters. Cities in California, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, and Florida, among others, are looking into creating new, more convenient railways. Seattle, which already has several railways, is currently working on the creation of a monorail to move people more efficiently.
